Reading Festival is one of the best live events of the year for us. I myself have been going to it since 1992 and it has always been such an enjoyable experience. One memorable year when Nirvana headlined it was a sea of mud and I distinctly remember going to see Mudhoney, so very apt, on the main stage. It was absolutely manic as you can imagine and the crowd had managed to put together an enormous sheet, God knows where they got it from, soaked it in mud and draped it over practically everyone, we were covered head to toe in it and the band were getting mud thrown at them and were throwing it back, it was chaos! It is memories like these that we need to start making again as events come back and the announcement that Reading and Leeds is going ahead for 2021 literally made us cry with happiness.
I mean people just want to experience that night-time buzz outside the tents, gathering round chatting, drinking, smoking and generally having a good time. Everybody in it together, even miss the toilets! Or do I?! J. The plethora of food establishments on offer too, cheesy chips I mean come on is there anything better! Then nothing more enjoyable than sitting there on the grass with a stack of beers watching some of the smaller acts and working out from your planner which tent you simply have to be at so as not to miss that all important band you recently got into, then being outside as the light fades into the main headliners, just being amongst everyone all with the same goal in mind, to enjoy the magic and sing and dance to your idols.
So 2021, it promises to be a great line up so far. Highlights have to be QOTSA and of course Liam Gallagher, c’mon you know! You can’t beat a bit of bopping to Two Door Cinema Club or The Wombats either. Let’s Dance to Joy Division, yes please! Catfish too with their enigmatic lead singer Van McCann, powerful. More to be announced as usual so expect there to be a whole host of brilliant acts to fill the bill.
Welcome back Reading and Leeds, get in!
